About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Engineer to join our mission-driven Public Health technology team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain robust software solutions that empower health agencies, researchers, and communities to access critical data and improve public health outcomes. You will work closely with cross-functional teams of epidemiologists, data scientists, and senior engineers to build scalable applications that address real-world health challenges. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable software applications and services focused on public health data management and analysis.

• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and public health experts to translate business and research requirements into technical specifications.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code primarily in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java).

• Participate in code reviews, identifying opportunities for performance optimization, security hardening, and architectural improvements.

• Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving software defects across production and staging environments.

• Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy, security standards, and regulations (such as HIPAA and GDPR) when handling sensitive health data.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 1–2 years of professional software development experience, or an equivalent combination of rigorous internships and practical project work.

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Public Health Informatics, or a related technical field.

• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or Go.

• Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and data modeling.

• Basic understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

• Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and a genuine passion for public health and social impact.
